Dairy Council of California carefully selects our partners in order to work with organizations that are committed to the health and well being of Californians. By working with these partners, we are able to expand our reach and each organization can achieve more than we can do alone.
Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program
launched by National Dairy Council (NDC) and National Football League,
in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The program encourages youth to consume nutrient-rich foods (low-fat and
fat-free dairy foods, fruits, vegetables and whole grains) and achieve
at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Fuel Up to Play 60
is designed to engage and empower youth to take action for their own health
by implementing long-term, positive changes for themselves and their schools.
Dairy Council is a proud partner with the California State PTA through our involvement as advisors to the Health Commission as well as sponsorship of speakers for their annual convention.
The Nutrient Rich Foods Coalition is a partnership that brings together leading scientific researchers, health professionals, communications experts, and agricultural commodity organizations. Dairy Council is one of 21 member organizations dedicated to helping educate people on how to get more nutrients from their diets by choosing nutrient-rich foods first.
We promote educational resources based on a whole diet approach; that is, choices from all five food groups. We help disseminate resources, both online and print, that align with this nutritional approach.
We are proud to be a Community Partner with the USDA ChooseMyPlate, working with them to reach consumers to make meaningful, sustainable, healthy dietary changes, based on the Dietary Guidelines.
Hey Kids, Let’s Cook! (HKLC) is an innovative cooking show, based on nutrition, created for kids and teens. Dairy Council has been a sponsor since the program launched in November of 2006. The show, which airs on stations throughout California, helps children, teens and their parents develop cooking skills, while demonstrating how to make easy, nutritious and delicious recipes.
Dairy Council advises on recipe selection and nutrition content shared through the cooking demonstrations. We also provide content for the HKLC website.
The Society for Nutrition Education (SNE) is dedicated to promoting effective nutrition education and communication to support and improve healthful behaviors.
As an organizational member Dairy Council is part of an important network
of organizations that share a commitment to SNE's mission. We support sessions
and speakers at the Annual Meeting, present our own work through poster sessions
and/or short oral presentations, co-sponsor educational programs like webinars,
and serve on relevant committees.
Dairy Council partners with the California Department of Education (CDE) Nutrition Services Division on a host of activities throughout the year both at the state level as well as the local level. We support nutrition education in schools, school nutrition association activities and act as advisors when called upon.
The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion is committed to improving the nutritional well-being of all Americans. Dairy Council of California has partnered with them to help end childhood obesity through their MyPyramid Action Kit.
WIC is a federally-funded health and nutrition program serving
approximately 1.5 million California women, infants and children
up to age five. Dairy Council worked with WIC
staff on the development of staff training materials as well
as participant education resources supporting the new food
package launched in October 2009. We also collaborated with
WIC and several other partners in conducting a research pilot
testing the feasibility of using yogurt as a milk substitute
in the food package. We continue to support WIC with print and online resources.
