Making
Meals Matter For Your Young Child:
Guide for Busy Parents
This eight-page booklet offers busy parents guidance, practical
information and new ideas on how to prepare and serve healthy
meals and snacks to their preschoolers (ages two to five).
It serves as a guide to help them teach their kids healthy
attitudes and behaviors toward food that will last a lifetime.
Based on the 2010
Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the MyPlate icon,
the program uses a food grouping system to outline the foods
and servings needed for healthy growth and development of
young children. The program is general enough to meet the
needs of all healthy preschoolers, yet tailored to meet
the preferences of each individual child. Sections on activity,
snacking and how to achieve a healthy body weight are included
as well as answers to common questions and concerns.
Throughout the booklet, the importance of shared family meals
and the positive impact that parents can have as healthy role
models is underscored.
