The California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness (Wellness Task Force) honored some of California’s healthiest employers during its annual California Fit Business Awards ceremony held at the Disneyland Hotel on Thursday, November 4 2010. To acknowledge and salute these companies, the Wellness Task Force hosted the awards ceremony, titled ‘The Wonderful World of Wellness’, for 82 California Employers receiving the 2010 Fit Business Award. Dairy Council of California was pleased to receive the gold level award for our growing and successful workplace wellness program.
The keynote address was delivered by Gary Earl, Senior Vice President and Co-founder of CIGNA's Communities of Health. He did an excellent job congratulating all of us for our efforts and inspiring us to keep up the good work. Earl really summed it all up when he said, “Given that the average person spends so much time in the workplace … it is imperative that both individuals and organizations seek creative ways to create healthier environments. Tonight represents an opportunity to celebrate and honor people and organizations that have implemented unique life-altering programs and approaches that promote meaningful and measurable benefits to employee health.”
The ceremony followed a day of mini-conference workshops, which included panel presentations, speakers, round table sessions, and a cooking demonstration by a Disney chef. I attended with one of my colleagues, Heather Whitaker. We found the workshops to be both informative and helpful. We also had the chance to develop relationships with other organizations trying to accomplish similar results but facing different barriers. This provided us the perfect opportunity to share our recently developed online workplace wellness toolkit, which was created as a result of seeing the growing need for resources to implement or enhance an organization's workplace wellness program.
Both Heather and I left this wonderful event inspired to continue our organizational wellness efforts and to find ways to help others do the same.

Ashley Rosales, Registered Dietitian

About me:
Ashley Rosales, registered dietitian, received her B.S. in Clinical Nutrition from UC Davis and completed the dietetic internship program at Napa State Hospital. She has a professional background in nutrition for the elderly and has worked in both the clinical and community setting. However, she has found her true calling working in the field of nutrition education where she can empower others to make the best food and lifestyle decisions for their own optimal health and wellness.
Ashley’s fondest childhood memories took place in the kitchen helping her mom and grandmother cook, or around the dinner table sharing laughs with family and friends. As a wife and new mom she loves keeping the family mealtime tradition alive by preparing delicious and nutritious meals at home and she is inspired to help others do the same. She strongly believes that no matter what challenges families are faced with, such as limited time, lack of skills or even economic resources, they can find unique ways to share in a home cooked meal and reap all of the wonderful benefits of family meal time.
Her favorite quote: “We are indeed more than what we eat, but what we eat can nevertheless help us be much more than what we are.”
